Here we are about 2 weeks later with the first mods
installed. Boom Town Hobbies Ultra Flex Skids and
Model 3 Carbon boom kit. These are great parts and I
highly recommend them. Oh, and yes I broke the
stock ones in a crash.
Fast forward another 2 weeks to Phase II. Now we
have the Extreme Core Assembly and short carbon
fiber stabilizer bar from www.bladecx2.com installed.
Blade strikes are now a thing of the past. More Great
parts well worth the money.
Three weeks later assembly of Phase III mods. Xtreme
blades and Xtreme 180 motors with silver brushes,
E-Flite aluminium swashplate, DN 850 mAh battery, and
the servo pushrods moved to the 2nd hole on the
servo arms.
OK, assembly complete. Ready for test flying.
Results? Flies like a completely different helicopter,
which of course it almost is. It is now fairly fast, more
powerful, and very precise in its maneuvers.
Altogether much more fun to fly. Please watch the
video below to see the results for your self.
Recently switched the  canopy to the one for the CX.
It is a little lighter and more streamlined and the
bright yellow is much more visible when I fly outside
at night under the street lights. (Yes I finally smashed
the original one in a crash)
I have read many posts, threads and opinions about mods for the CX2,
and there are many that are of the opinion that they are not worth the
money and make no difference in the performance of the helicopter.
Nothing could be farther from the truth, at least in my opinion. I have not
had a single blade strike since installing the Extreme Core system. I can
now fly in winds up to about 5 mph and make aggressive maneuvers
without blades or stabilizer bar smacking into each other. The Xtreme
motors are wonderful, more power, quiet running and much cooler
operation. I get good flying time out of them even using my stock battery
packs that have at least 60 charges each on them.
Now let me say a few things about blades. I have tried them all, and my
preference is the Xtreme hard blades. They seem to have more lift than
any of the other blades and are definitely more rugged and durable (crash
resistant) than any of the others. Tip, if you are out of upgrade blades,
stock blades can be modified in a few minutes with an hobby knife and a
drill to work in blade grips.
The carbon mod 3 tail and ultra flex skids from Boom Town Hobbies are
wonderful parts and have survived many rough landings and outright
crashes unscathed. There are other tails out there and I may eventually
try them but the Ultra Flex Skids can't be beat.
The only aluminium parts on my CX2 is the swashplate and I plan to keep
it that way to keep the weight down.
